TI-FRIS is pleased to announce that it will accept applications from TI-FRIS Fellows for the following Grants that will be implemented in FY2025. For details, please see the "Call for Grant Applications for FY2025."

Grant for Interdisciplinary Research

The grant supports excellent joint research proposals that transcend the boundaries of fields and institutions to promote interdisciplinary research that can be published based on the above-mentioned exchange of interdisciplinary researchers and the seeds of interdisciplinary research possessed by each researcher.

In principle, the standard maximum amount per application is 500,000 yen per fiscal year. However, the amount may be reconsidered in each fiscal year.

The standard number of awarded applications is approximately 4 new projects in each fiscal year. The number of awarded applications and amounts may be adjusted in consideration of the budget and number of applications for the fiscal year covered by the support.

Applications are accepted in the year (around November) prior to the year in which support begins. The grant period is for a maximum of two fiscal years, starting on April 1 of the year in which the support is initiated.

Grant for Research Exchange

The grant supports expenses required to hold a research exchange event with the applicant TI-FRIS Fellow as the organizer and at least two other TI-FRIS Fellows or Senior Fellows from different participating institutions.

The standard maximum amount per application is 200,000 yen in principle. However, the amount may be reviewed on an annual basis.

Depends on the relevant fiscal year’s budget and the number of applications. However, in principle, the total amount of grant per fiscal year shall be limited to a maximum of 1 million yen, and the amount may be revised each fiscal year.

Applications are accepted in the year (around November) prior to the year of the grant, and the grant period is from April 1 to March 31 of the fiscal year.

Fund for Start-up Activities

This fund will be provided to create an independent research environment where TI-FRIS Fellows can promote world-class research in their respective fields.

Support will be provided from April of each year. The period of support will be up to two years.

Up to 1 million yen per year.

Fund for International Collaborative Research

This grant supports the travel and research expenses necessary for TI-FRIS Fellows to stay at overseas research institutions (in principle, the laboratories of international mentors) for about one month to conduct international joint research.

Support will be provided from April of each year. The period of support will be up to five years.

Up to 1 million yen per year.

Grant for Publication and Presentation of Research Results

This grant supports expenses required for the presentation of research results, such as expenses for participation in international conferences in Japan and abroad, publication fees (co-authors are acceptable as long as they can explain the role they played in writing the paper), etc.

The standard maximum amount per application is 400,000 yen in principle. However, the amount may be reviewed on an annual basis.

Depends on the relevant fiscal year's budget and the number of applications.

Applications are accepted in the year (around November) prior to the year of the grant, and the grant period is from April 1 to March 31 of the fiscal year.

Grant for Organizing Seminars

This grant supports expenses (travel expenses for lecturers, rewards for lectures, etc.) necessary to organize seminars.

The standard maximum amount per application is 300,000 yen in principle. However, the amount may be reviewed on an annual basis.

Depends on the relevant fiscal year's budget and the number of applications.

Applications are accepted in the year (around November) prior to the year of the grant, and the grant period is from April 1 to March 31 of the fiscal year.

Grant for Industry-Academia Collaborative Research and Social Implementation

This grant supports proposals for outstanding collaborative research and social implementation.

In principle, the standard maximum amount per application is 500,000 yen per fiscal year. However, the amount may be reconsidered in each fiscal year.

The standard number of awarded applications is approximately 4 new projects in each fiscal year. The number of awarded applications and amounts may be adjusted in consideration of the budget and number of applications for the fiscal year covered by the support.

Acknowledgment in Research Results

If you are presenting research results supported by TI-FRIS, please be sure to indicate this in the acknowledgments. The following are standard examples (you may add "in part" or list other support as appropriate).

Implementation Report

You are required to submit a report on the use and achievements of each supported expense (except for Fund for Start-up Activities). Please use the following form (Japanese or English version) to create a single file for all supported expenses and submit it to the TI-FRIS Secretariat by the end of each fiscal year (March 31).
