The 63rd TI-FRIS Hub Meeting / 79th FRIS Hub Meeting (Hybrid event)
TI-FRIS Hub Meetings are held once a month at Tohoku University to foster researchers who understand and can utilize the importance of interdisciplinary research across disciplines and institutions.
Common sense and way of thinking cannot be expected among researchers in different fields. The audience is encouraged to ask questions during the presentation to discuss and deepen their understanding. Please participate actively.

Presentation Title:
How Does Climate Move People? From Mongolian Pastoralists to Global Migration Prediction
Abstract:
“Only the sky knows where we’ll be a week from now.” The day a Mongolian pastoralist told me this on the steppe, I fell down the rabbit hole of human migration. What first appears to be scattered movement gradually reveals patterns linked to environmental variability. As I kept following human migration, my perspective expanded from the steppe to Japan and eventually to the globe. In Japan, I examine whether flood-related migration accelerates regional population aging. Globally, I use large-scale data and machine learning to capture and predict human migration under environmental change. Through human movement, I explore the relationship between climate and society.
